About FloraFact
A houseplant reference without the guesswork: a clear care card instead of conflicting tips.
Why another plant site
Search for any houseplant and you get ten articles: five say "water once a week," the other five say "water when the soil is dry." FloraFact gives specifics instead: how much, how often, how it changes in winter, and what happens if you overdo it. Every plant gets a care card with eight parameters first, then the full guide.
How we research a page
- Start from real questions. We look at what people actually search for and ask about each plant or problem, and make sure the page answers all of it, not just the headline question.
- Read the expert sources. Care requirements, temperatures, pests and treatments come from university extension services (UF/IFAS, Clemson HGIC, NC State Extension, University of Minnesota, UC IPM and others), the Missouri Botanical Garden, the RHS and peer-reviewed research. We read every page we cite; a source we could not open does not go on the list.
- Start from the plant's biology. Native habitat, root type and dormancy explain most care rules, so we build advice from them rather than from generic "plant tips."
- Toxicity by the book. Pet safety follows the ASPCA toxic and non-toxic plant lists exactly. For poisoning we point to your vet, the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center at (888) 426-4435, or Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222, and give no treatment advice.
- Read the experience. Where it helps, we summarize what growers report in public communities, always linking the actual thread. We paraphrase and never publish usernames.
- Resolve conflicts openly. When sources disagree, we say so and explain what the answer depends on instead of quietly picking a side.
- List the sources. Every article ends with the sources it was built on, so you can check them yourself.
Pages are written and edited by the FloraFact editorial team. Numbers are given in US units (°F, inches, fluid ounces).
Updates and corrections
Each page shows when it was published and last updated. We revisit pages when guidance changes. If you spot a mistake, tell us: we fix factual errors and update the date on the page.
Independence
We don't sell plants, fertilizers or pest products, and no company pays to be mentioned. Product types are named because that's what you need at the store; the advice is the same whatever the brand. The site shows no ads.
What you won't find here
No medicinal recipes from aloe or kalanchoe: that's a question for doctors. No superstitions presented as care advice.

- A care card for every plantLight, water, temperature, humidity, soil, difficulty, toxicity and bloom in one panel, before the long read.
- Diagnosis by symptomA yellow leaf is not a diagnosis. Every plant has a table: symptom, likely cause, what to do.
- Straight answers on toxicityPet and child safety follows the ASPCA plant lists and poison-control guidance, not folklore.
- No miracle curesNo "water it with aspirin." Fertilizers, sprays and home remedies come with a note on where they fail.
